Odyssey Parents,
We are ready and excited for an excellent year an Odyssey Charter School. Please read carefully through the following information:
Assessment Days
August 18-20 are assessment days. Students will be assessed and meet their teachers. This is a great time to drop off donated classroom supplies. A list of grade level supplies can be found on our website on the left hand side under “classroom supply lists”.
First Day of School
The first day of school is this Wednesday, August 18th. School starts at 8:30. Please refer to the front page of our website for a complete list of school hours including kindergarten hours.
Carpool
Please make sure you are familiar with the carpool process. In addition, please be patient for the first while as all parents learn the system. The teachers have all reviewed the carpool process and we ask all parents to review it as well. We also ask that you do not park in any neighboring parking lots, you will be towed.
Absences/Tardies/Late Arrivals
If your student is absent, please email office@odysseycharter.net or use our absent extension (option1- you will be asked to leave a message). Please leave your student’s name and the dates they will be absent. If you will be gone for an extended period, you will need to complete an extended absence form from the front office. As per Odyssey’s attendance policy, you will receive a notice if there are 6 or more excused absences within 6 weeks. Your student will be tardy if they are not in their desk right at 8:30. If your student is late, be sure to check them in using the computer at the front office.
Medications at School
The only medications students are allowed to have on them in the classroom are cough drops and inhalers for asthma. Absolutely no other medications can be kept on your student at any point in time. Epi pens can be kept at the front office as well as in the classroom with the student’s teacher. If your student has a prescription they take daily, it must be kept at the front office and the prescription must have their name on it and not be outdated. Please contact the front office if your student has emergency or daily medication they will be taking at school. If your student has not been feeling well and will be needing an over the counter medication, you may send a pre-packaged single dosage packet only to the front office to be given to them that day. You may not create your own “single dose” package. In addition, we are not allowed to dispense any over the counter medication that does not belong to the student.
Student Safety
Students are not allowed to go outside the building to the parking lot alone for any reason during school hours or after carpool has ended at 3:15 (1:45 on Wednesdays). Lunches or any other items being dropped off must be brought in to the school. Once students have been brought in from afternoon carpool at 3:15, parents must come into the school to pick up their students. We do our absolute best to keep all students safe. Please do not ask your student to wait by the doors and go out to meet you when they see you arrive.
Student Checkout
If you are checking your student out early remember you must do it before 2:45 (1:15 on Wednesdays). This helps eliminate problems with carpool both inside and outside the school. You may not call ahead to have your child waiting for you. We realize it can take a little time for students to get to the front office once they are called down, please plan for this. Students who are being checked out will only be called down when the parent arrives at the school. By doing this, the children will not be left waiting for various amounts of time until their parents arrive. Students will stay in their classrooms where they are supervised and can continue to learn.
Parking During School Hours
If you are at the school for any afternoon activities that will keep you here between 2:30 and 3:00 (1:00 to 1:30 on Wednesdays), please park so you are ready for carpool. When school is over, please return to your vehicle before the students are released. In addition, please make sure you do not park in any neighboring parking lots at any point in time-you will be towed.
Uniforms
All students are required to be in uniform every day. Please make sure you read the uniform description found on our website under “Student-Parent Information”/Student-Parent Handbook. Colors of shirts and pants must be Odyssey uniform approved with no visible logos. If you have any questions concerning color, please check with the front office. All students in grades 3-6 must have a belt. Shirts must be tucked in. Shoes must have a closed toe and a closed heel and all students must wear socks. Uniforms must be clean with no holes.
Late Pick Up
Odyssey’s front office closes at 3:30 (2:00 on Wednesdays). Please make sure your students are picked up on time. If you know you are going to be late, please make arrangements ahead of time for your child to be picked up. In addition, only students involved in after school activities can be in the school after 3:15 p.m. – all other siblings must go home at carpool.
Thank you,
Odyssey Charter School
