All business and affairs of Odyssey Charter School are managed under the direction of the Board of Trustees through a set of clear and concise written policies. The Board of Trustees consists of seven officers. OCS parents vote in elections to replace board officers who have reached the ends of their terms.
The OCS Board of Trustees, at its inception, was comprised of parents in four of five available positions. The board expanded in 2011 to 7 seats. It is foreseeable that parents will continue to constitute a majority of the Board. Board of Trustees responsibilities are detailed more fully in the OCS Charter Abridgement’s section titled “Organizational Structure.”
When are Board of Trustees Meetings Held?
Board of Trustees Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm (unless otherwise noticed).
These meetings are held at the school (738 E. Quality Dr. (700 South), American Fork, Utah 84003).
Board Meeting Minutes and Materials
Board meeting minutes and materials can be found on the Utah Public Notice Website. It can be found here. Odyssey can be found under SCHOOLS in the Government tab, ODYSSEY CHARTER SCHOOL in the Entity tab, and BOARD OF TRUSTEES in the Body(s) tab.
Who may attend Board of Trustees Meetings?
Parents are invited and encouraged to attend Board Meetings! We welcome and value parent input as Odyssey is dependent on the energy and experience of our parents and volunteers. We recommend parents attend at least one board meeting each year as a way to stay connected with the school and its issues. If you are unable to attend a meeting or would otherwise like to review the meetings’ minutes, copies are available by request at the front office or by contacting Russell Schellhous. Agendas for each Board Meeting will be posted at the front office before each meeting.
What is Policy Governance?
Odyssey’s Board of Trustees has adopted a form of oversight called Policy Governance. Policy Governance®, an integrated board leadership paradigm created by Dr. John Carver, is a groundbreaking model of governance designed to empower boards of directors to fulfill their obligation of accountability for the organizations they govern. It provides a clear differentiation between governance and management responsibilities in organizations. 2023-24 School Trust Land
Dear Parents,
This letter is to summarize how the Governing Board of Odyssey Charter School acting as the Charter Trust Land Council used the School LANDS Trust program funds ($49,011) for 2018-19. These funds were used to enhance academic excellence and to implement our School LANDS Trust improvement plan.
- Staff was hired using School LAND Trust funds to provide instruction, intervention support, and resources for our students. The staff worked specifically with students who needed specific and targeted instructional support in math.
- Technology was purchased using School LANDS Trust funds to address the instructional and technology needs of our students, teachers, and school. The purchased technology included a complete mobile Chromebooks lab.
- School LANDS Trust funds were used for registration fees, curricular supplies, and stipends for teachers to attend Spalding summer trainings.
Thank you for supporting our School LANDS Trust program and our Governing Board acting as the Charter Trust Land Council. This council is comprised of parents who have been elected to serve on the Odyssey’s Governing Board. If you have a desire to serve on the council and directly impact how these funds are used please follow the application process for the next Governing Board election and apply for an open seat. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Odyssey’s director, Ms. Austin, at director@odysseycharter.net or a member of the board at gb@odysseycharter.net.
Regards,
Odyssey Charter School
